Transition is difficult. Whether good or bad. Out with the old and in the with new still comes with many unforeseen challenges that we as realtor sometimes take for granted. You begin to become sentimental to the things that you may have come accustomed to, like the 3rd step on the stairs that creaks when you step on it, or the light switch that only works when you flip on another. The tiny quirks become part of what home is. Your everyday life and once things begin to change and you look for a home that has brand new wiring, and non-creaky steps, you begin to appreciate the memories associated with those things.

I have a laundry list of small seemly insignificant things that can turn me off about a home.

  1. No foyer, “because where are people going to put their shoes in the middle of my living room floor!?”
  2. I need to have an upstairs porch “because I want to be outside with the kids without being outside with the kids”
  3. A useful basement….
  4. Please no radiant heat because eventually I’ll need central air if I don’t have it when I move in

I am truly my worst client. I also don’t have to worry about annoying my realtor, so I don’t feel bad letting myself into all of the most wonderful homes. I think the biggest heartbreak is losing to another offer. You just take it on the chin but really at that point it truly is personal.

Something that I’ve learned is how to get creative. As a realtor you may think that most work can be done from the office. I found a prospective home from walking the neighborhoods. Off market homes aren’t just for leads, they’re for sale! and maybe for me. As of today we are still on the prowl but my experience has humbled me and made me be more creative for my clients both future and present.

For fun-sies I heres some photos of some things that made me fall in love with a few of the homes we looked at.
